More Than a Museum. CATHEDRAL ARTS DISTRICT.

Around Regensburg Cathedral of St Peter, a new cultural quarter is taking shape. Opening in 2028, CATHEDRAL ARTS DISTRICT will bring together art, history, faith, and community across a collection of extraordinary historic sites. Under the shared name CATHEDRAL ARTS DISTRICT, the Cathedral Treasury, the Cathedral Cloister with its selected chapels and the previously inaccessible Romanesque Rooms, the documents Niedermünster and Porta Praetoria, St Ulrich Museum Church, and the DOMPLATZ 5 Information Centre will be united as one cultural destination.

The name captures the essence of the project: CATHEDRAL ARTS DISTRICT is not a single museum, but a vibrant cultural quarter made up of significant heritage sites surrounding Regensburg Cathedral of St Peter. The Cathedral is the spiritual and historical heart of the ensemble and shapes its identity. As a place of worship, it remains a living space of faith and spirituality.

At CATHEDRAL ARTS DISTRICT, outstanding works of art spanning many centuries meet contemporary perspectives. Sacred treasures, remarkable monuments, fascinating stories, and innovative ways of engaging with the collection open up a wide range of pathways into art and culture. The vision is to create a place of wonder, dialogue, and encounter—one that welcomes people from Regensburg, the surrounding region, and visitors from around the world.
